two music posts in a row? insanity! this one is a double-header, too!

so i went to the xx/hot chip show last night @ terminal 5. it was great, but the crowd was horrible. then again, i just think i’m getting to “that age” where i hate pretty much any large group of people concentrated in a small space, sooooo……yeah.

anyway, i only had like literally 30 seconds to shoot the xx as they played super early and i was running late and got there during the 3rd song. here’s a fun fact about ‘professional’ concert photography: 99% of the time photographers are only allowed to shoot for a small portion of the show, very typically it’s the first 3 songs (but this varies depending on what the band decides…for example, when i shot NIN @ the bowery last year we were allowed to shoot something weird like the 6th song only and at lady gaga i got to shoot at the very end of the show..regardless we photographers get very limited time to get the shots we need/want.) SO the point of this story is, the xx/hc show was going by the “first 3″ rule and since i got there DURING the third song i basically had to sprint to the pit and get what i could before that song ended. so given those circumstance, i think i did pretty well! ha! hot chip was great, i got super sweaty and that’s all she wrote.

the specials

so my friend alithea (see last picture in this entry) came to town to see the specials on their 30th anniversary reunion tour. alithea is one of those rare people who is still EXTREMELY into ska music. like. really. A LOT, bless her heart.

anyway, she was going to the show by herself so i managed to get a pass to take photographs for the show for time out with the added bonus that i could hang out w/ her there as well.
